Gordon Hill Press is a publisher of poetry and stylistically innovative fiction, non-fiction, and literary criticism (especially concerning poetry). We strive to include a wide diversity of writers and writing, particularly writers living with disability. We want to publish exemplary writing.

At Great Plains Press, we publish stories that are unique and reflect our region, and Canada, to the rest of the world. We publish new writers alongside literary veterans, and seek out exciting, distinct and challenging topics as we share the stories that bind us. Great Plains has three imprints: Great Plains Press (regional non-fiction), Enfield & Wizenty (literary fiction), and Yellow Dog (fiction and non-fiction for middle grade and teen). Hancock House Publishers, Ltd, was incorporated in 1975. Since that time, it has established itself as one of British Columbia’s longest running, independent, small publishers. Since its inception by David Hancock, Hancock House has focused on a regional specific genre, tailoring to the Pacific Northwest market, specifically northern California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon, The Northwest Territories and Alaska. While incorporated in 1975, David Hancock published his first book in 1970, thus celebrating 50 years of book publishing Canadian content in British Columbia in 2020.

Hancock House and our authors have covered a variety of topics, ranging from natural history, Indigenous art and culture, Canadian history, poetry and literary works, cryptozoology, academic and educational textbooks, and children’s titles. Somewhat unique to our industry, Hancock House undertakes its own distribution throughout the US and Canada from its own independently managed warehouses in both British Columbia and Washington but maintain international partners for overseas distribution.

Our publishing mandate is to help develop and distribute Canadian voices, particularly those of western Canada, including those of our local Halkomelem Indigenous Peoples who's unceded territories our offices reside upon. Having a long history of Indigenous content, including the likes of the late Chief Dan George of the Squamish Nation, we hope to expand and improve upon our former works relating to Indigenous art, culture and history and have also expanded our genres to include non-binary authors for the first time.

We additionally believe strongly in topics contributing to environmental protection and awareness and the education of the next generation of British Columbian voices.

CELEBRATING 50+ YEARS! At the forefront of modern book publishing in BC, Heritage House grew out of the success of the 1969 bestseller Wagon Road North, a book lauded by the Encyclopedia of British Columbia as “the most notable BC-published book” of its day. CELEBRATING 35+ YEARS! When TouchWood Editions was first established in 1984 under the name Horsdal & Schubart, the company focused on publishing BC-focused history and biography, often of a nautical theme. Today TouchWood Editions remains an independent Canadian publisher with a big love for books on food and wine, history, art and photography, gardening, pets, house and home, as well as compelling literary fiction.

Inanna Publications and Education Inc. is one of the few independent feminist presses in Canada committed to publishing fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction by and about women, and complementing this with relevant non-fiction, that bring new, innovative and diverse perspectives with the potential to change and enhance women's lives everywhere. Our aim is to conserve a publishing space dedicated to feminist voices that provoke discussion, advance feminist thought, and speak to diverse lives of women. We have always been particularly interested in ensuring that the voices of disenfranchised and marginalized women are heard and we are committed to working closely with talented, emerging writers. Our priorities are to publish literary books, particularly by fresh, new Canadian voices, that are intellectually rigorous, speak to women's hearts, and tell truths about the lives of the broad diversity of Canadian women - small books for people who want to read and think about real women's lives.
