Building Your Canadian Classroom Bookshelf

Building Your Canadian Classroom Bookshelf is a resource created by author Vikki VanSickle for educators, librarians, and families looking to connect young readers with Canadian books. The info sheet highlights a curated selection of picture books, middle-grade titles, and teen reads by Canadian authors, alongside links to trusted programs, organizations, awards, festivals, and vendors that support access to Canadian children’s and YA literature. This includes ACP’s Top Grade program, which is curated by a teacher, Spencer Miller, and features books published by ACP members. Although it is not included as a resource because it is not limited to children’s and YA literature, teachers and librarians can also use ACP’s Certified Canadian Publisher program to determine whether a book was published by a Canadian-owned publisher.

At Reading for the Love of It’s 2026 conference, Vikki VanSickle moderated a panel on finding, sharing, and championing Canadian books in classrooms. She generously created this resource to extend that conversation beyond the conference and provide a practical tool educators and librarians can use year-round.
